Since I decided in August 2018 that I wanted to market and push my wedding photography more, I have been speaking to many people, some photographers and some brides, about the different ways of booking a wedding photographer and what to look for.
Choosing a style
As you may know, my 21 years of being a full time photographer has been spent capturing moments in editorial and commercial photography. I’ve always photographed weddings for friends and family, shooting them in the documentary photography style that I studied at college. This is still the way I shoot now. Yes, there are always group shots to be done, but personally i don’t think you would want to wake the next day and remember how much time you spent with your photographer, and how little time you spent with friends and family.
What’s the right style of wedding photography?
There are so many styles of wedding photography out there. The right one for you might not be the right one for the next person, but that doesn’t matter. To me, it’s important that you find the right style of wedding photography AND the right wedding photographer. Try to find someone who you are confident in and are able to build a relationship with.
So what’s my style?
I LOVE to build relationships with my couples and their families. The pre wedding shoot is a great way to see how your photographer works, and for the photographer to see how you are as a couple. You can tell a lot from the way a couple will interact on a day too.
Then hopefully, when it comes to your wedding day, you will be relaxed around the camera. By meeting you two, maybe three times before your wedding day, we get to know each other. On your wedding day, I will ‘borrow’ you for pockets, maybe 5 minutes here, 15 minutes there. My aim is to capture moments from your wedding, as well as the possibility of portraits. Some moments, you wont see, and they’re some of my favourites.
So what’s my availability?
I still have dates available for 2019 and 2020 bookings. If you’re looking for a Cheshire wedding photographer to cover your day in then please get in touch.
