Until you embark on the search for a wedding photographer, you probably don’t realise how many different styles of wedding photography there are to choose from. Every wedding photographer is different in their approach and style so it is important to chose one which most suits your personality and preferences.
My personal style is ‘relaxed wedding photography’. This is not so much of a choice that I made but more of a natural direction.
As a relaxed wedding photographer, I take a documentary approach. Capturing the genuine events and emotions of your wedding day as they play out as opposed to setting up posed photographs. I also offer a subtle presence and guidance rather than forcing a specific direction.
So, why is ‘relaxed photography’ my style?
It Comes Naturally
As mentioned, relaxed wedding photography is something that came naturally to me. There was never a point when I sat down to decide on which approach I was going to take. Having documented news events for 20 years as a press photographer, it was a straight-forward process. If you ask anybody who knows me, they would probably say that I’m a fairly relaxed guy. Quiet but friendly. Or at least I hope that they would! I feel incredibly lucky that natural wedding photography came so easy to me as it makes my job so effortless and enjoyable.
It Creates Honest Photographs
Posed wedding photos can look really cool and I always give my couples the chance to get a little creative with me at some point during the day if they want to, but ultimately it is the relaxed wedding photographs which really stand out. The photographs that you didn’t know were being taken but capture a beautiful moment that you never want to forget. Relaxed wedding photography tells the true story of what happened on your special day, how events unfolded and how you felt in every moment. This is something that you will really appreciate in the future.
It Portrays Personalities
One thing to remember is that although this day is all about you and your partner, your wedding photographs won’t all be of you two. They will also capture your family and friends, all of which have their own individual and unique personalities which you love them for. You will be surprised how one single photograph can capture the true essence of a person. Whether it be your Uncle showing off his moves on the dance floor or your Nan sitting quietly drying her happy tears, one photograph really can speak a thousand words.
It Enables You to Enjoy Your Day
As a relaxed wedding photographer, I tend to work both up close and from a distance. There are times when you won’t know what I am photographing. There will also be moments thought where we are working together to create beautiful photographs for you to treasure. Allowing you to enjoy every moment of your day with little interference from myself. I will spend time with you before the big day to get an understanding of what group shots are important to you and I will ensure that these are achieved in a non-intrusive and timely manner, allowing you and your guests to enjoy every aspect of the day.
