Wedding photography in the rain
Richard and Emma’s wedding at Alcumlow Wedding Barn in July was always going to be a challenge. I knew that I had a wedding in the North East of England at The Comb in Hexham the day before, three and a half hours drive away. Richard said it was ok for me to be tired, “as long as you’re not grumpy!” I knew then all would be well. Arriving at the popular Cheshire wedding venue in sideways rain and howling wind at 9am, it wasn’t quite the picture for a July wedding that any of us had planned, but both Emma and Richard were brilliant in embracing the idea of having sections of their wedding photography in the rain throughout the day. As a recommended Alcumlow Hall Farm Wedding Photographer, I already had a few ideas in mind as to how we could get the best photographs possible from what looked like being a wet wedding day.
Countryside barn wedding
Alcumlow Wedding Barn is a great venue for a wedding anytime of the year. You can read more about the venue in a previous blog I wrote. Whether you are getting married outside in the White House, or inside the barn itself, with its thousands of fairy lights, there is a welcoming feeling throughout the whole venue and it’s why this countryside barn wedding location is fast becoming another of the many popular Cheshire wedding venues.
Richard and Emma had rotten luck with the weather for their big day, but they still had great fun and were a pleasure to work with. The bridal prep began at 9am, whilst my second photographer for the day, Nik Bryant from Nik Bryant Photography, was over with Richard and the groomsmen.
Wedding photographs in the rain
Whilst the bridal party arrived beneath umbrellas in driving rain, my mind was already thinking about where we could get wedding photographs in the rain of the bride and groom. There are pockets of daylight inside the barn, but Richard’s sister, Lorraine, kindly volunteered to hold an umbrella over the bride and groom before whisking it away from their heads long enough for us to get the photographs they wanted.
Indoor wedding ceremony
At Alcumlow Wedding Barn you have the option of getting married outside beneath the White House, or having your wedding ceremony inside the barn itself. Richard and Emma had decided from the start that they would get married inside, and it turned out to be a very wise choice considering all the rain the had on their big day.
Trusting your wedding photographer
After the speeches were over, the bride and groom danced with their friends and family and after one off camera flash photography, they braved the elements for one last photograph in the rain. I cannot thank Richard and Emma enough for trusting my wedding photography ideas and venturing out into what really was the worst kind of weather to have on your wedding day.
