With history dating back 1812, the venues historical charm has been maintained, with many of the buildings original features such as the panelled hall and reception, lovingly restored.

Winding driveway.

Merewood Country House is a venue which oozes intimacy, elegance and history. Perfect for your wedding. From making your way up the winding driveway to the house at the top, you can feel the history and can imagine smartly dressed men and women of the 19th century enjoying the English country sunshine on the lawns over looking Lake Windermere.  

The beautiful interiors and fabulous Lake District views provide a tranquility that allows wedding guests to sneak away from the party atmosphere and find a quiet corner to sit in, or to take a walk around the grounds and fill their lungs with beautiful, fresh, Lake District air.

Open Fires.

I photographed Paul and Sarah’s Lake District wedding here in 2013. It rained for the majority of the day, except for the wedding breakfast, where the sun shone and dried up a lot of the rain! We did manage to sneak outside for some pictures of the bride and groom together, but managed to keep warm and dry throughout the day, thanks to the fabulous rooms and open fires at Merewood House.

As Sarah and her bridal party prepared for the wedding day in the Bridal Suite, Paul and his brother Shaun were ready in record time! I don’t think I have ever photographed a set of Groomsmen who have been ready so far in advance of the being to the wedding ceremony.

Wedding Breakfast.

Not long after though, Sarah was ready and looked stunning in her dress. The wedding ceremony was followed by drinks in the reception rooms and photographs on the grass outside the front of the hotel. There was even time for the bride and groom to play chess! After the guests had enjoyed the wedding breakfast and the speeches, including a personally recorded message for the bride and groom from Elbow’s lead singer Guy Garvey, it was time to cut the cake and hit the dance floor along with the evening guests!
