Some weddings are all about the grand gestures, while others are about the people. Ellen and Ryan’s beautiful wedding at Didsbury House Hotel near Manchester was definitely the latter- a relaxed, intimate celebration surrounded by their closest family and friends, with plenty of laughter, happy tears, and unforgettable moments throughout the day.
A morning of relaxed wedding photography in Didsbury
The day began with Ellen as she got ready alongside her lovely family and close friends. There was such a relaxed atmosphere from the very start, with everyone enjoying the excitement as the final preparations came together.
One of the standout moments of the morning was when Ellen’s dad saw her in her wedding dress for the first time. As a wedding photographer, those genuine reactions are always some of my favourite moments to capture. There was so much pride and emotion in the room, creating memories the family will treasure forever.
A stroll to the ceremony
Rather than travelling by car to the venue, Ellen and her bridal party simply walked along the road to Didsbury House Hotel for the ceremony. It was such a lovely, natural part of the day and perfectly reflected the relaxed feel of the wedding.
People passing by smiled at us, the bridesmaids laughed together, and there was a real sense of anticipation as they made their way to the venue.
Meanwhile, Ryan waited patiently inside with his best man, ready to see Ellen walk down the aisle.

Nestled in the heart of leafy Didsbury on the outskirts of Manchester, Didsbury House Hotel offers an elegant yet intimate setting for weddings. The Victorian townhouse combines boutique luxury with a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making it ideal for couples looking for a smaller celebration with plenty of character.
The hotel offers stylish spaces for both ceremonies and receptions, while its private gardens provide a peaceful backdrop for romantic wedding photography away from the bustle of the city. From a wedding photographer’s perspective, the venue offers beautiful natural light, charming architecture, and secluded outdoor areas that create timeless wedding photographs whatever the season.
Family portraits and precious moments
After the ceremony, everyone gathered outside to celebrate before we explored the gardens for some relaxed portraits of Ellen and Ryan together.
One of the highlights was photographing the couple with their adorable daughter, who stole everyone’s hearts as the cutest little bridesmaid. These family photographs are often the ones that become even more meaningful over the years.
We also captured plenty of group photographs before guests enjoyed reception drinks and canapés. There was such a fantastic atmosphere, with family and friends chatting, laughing and making the most of the sunshine.
Speeches with a difference
One of the most memorable parts of the day came during the speeches. Rather than taking place in the reception room, everyone gathered around the grand staircase inside the hotel. It created a wonderfully informal setting, with guests spread across the staircase and surrounding area, making for some fantastic photographs full of genuine reactions, laughter, and emotion. It was a brilliant example of how doing something a little differently can create truly unique images.
Cake, dancing, and celebrations
As the evening got underway, it was time to cut the cake before everyone headed onto the dance floor to celebrate properly.
From emotional family moments to plenty of dancing and laughter, Ellen and Ryan’s wedding was a perfect reminder that the best weddings aren’t about elaborate schedules or extravagant details. They’re about celebrating with the people you love most.
