From candid storytelling to bold editorial style shots, here are the top wedding photography trends to look out for in 2025…
1. Documentary style wedding photography
Documentary style wedding photography in itself is certainly nothing new: us documentary style wedding photographers have been capturing candid, unscripted moments for a few years now. But in 2025, the documentary style approach is set to dominate over other styles of photography. We’re seeing couples opting for a more natural and authentic visual narrative, where the wedding photographer takes on the role of a discreet observer.
Documentary style wedding photography captures raw emotion, genuine laughter, and spontaneous interactions, making for a truly heartfelt wedding album. Which is why I love it! Natural, fun and emotional wedding photography has always been my specialism. My editorial photography background means I come from an industry where I had to capture moments as they happened. 2. Film photography revival
This is quite an interesting one! In an age of digital perfection, film photography is said to be making a major comeback. The grainy, nostalgic quality of film adds a timeless and romantic feel to wedding albums. Wedding photographers are starting to blend film and digital photography to create unique, textured images that stand out.
3. Intimate and micro-weddings
As a wedding photographer, one of the trends I’ve seen emerge in recent times is couples opting for small, intimate weddings. Of course, COVID and the lockdowns really accelerated this trend, but even now I still find that a lot of couples are opting for more personal, relaxed weddings. In fact, Google searches for “small intimate wedding venues” are currently up 60%. It seems that a lot of couples like the thought of a relaxed, personal day with their nearest and dearest.
With so many couples opting for smaller, more personal weddings, wedding photographers are shifting their approach to capture the intimacy of these celebrations. The focus is on storytelling, family connections, and the little details that make a wedding unique. Expect more close-up shots, soft lighting, and emotional moments that highlight the closeness of the couple and their guests.

4. Drone photography and creative angles
Aerial shots have been gaining popularity, and in 2025, drone photography is set to take wedding imagery to new heights- literally. From breathtaking landscape shots of outdoor venues to creative overhead portraits, drones offer a fresh perspective that adds drama and scale to wedding albums.
5. Black and white photography comeback
Again, black and white wedding photography is nothing new, but this year it is experiencing a definite resurgence in popularity. Stripping away colour highlights emotion, texture, and contrast, resulting in timeless and elegant images. Many wedding photographers are offering a mix of colour and monochrome photos to provide a classic yet modern touch to wedding albums.
